Before I get started, in full disclosure, I am a proud member of Pawtucket Country Club, so this review may be a bit biased. But, quite frankly, I don’t care and I fully stand by my assessment.
Located in Rhode Island, Pawtucket Country Club is a private course designed by Willie Park Jr. that offers a classic golfing experience with a range of challenging holes. Tipping out at just over 6,500 yards with a par of 69, the course is known for its well-maintained greens, tree-lined fairways, and strategic bunkering. Many players appreciate its traditional layout and the varied difficulty, which tests golfers’ shot-making abilities across a mix of long par 4s, tricky par 3s, and a notable uphill par 5. Although with just one par 5, Pawtucket County Club is a true test for even the most advanced golfer.
Key highlights include the 18th hole, which is considered one of the best finishing holes in the state, featuring a downhill approach to a bowl-shaped green, surrounded by bunkers with a stunning clubhouse view. The par-3s on the course are also particularly tough, often placing significant pressure on accuracy. Despite its challenges, Pawtucket Country Club maintains a fair pace of play and has increasingly become accessible to the general public.
The club, especially all of the staff and members, are great. Club Manager, Jackie Doyle and her team provide a friendly and accommodating experience for all, while Head Golf Professional, Mike Gelinas and his staff couldn’t be more obliging. Additionally, Head Superintendent, Michael Whitehead and his crew do a tremendous job working diligently year round to ensure the course is always in impeccable condition.
Overall, Pawtucket Country Club is praised for its excellent conditioning and timeless design, making it a must-play for golf enthusiasts in the area. Especially for this member.
