Ok folks, we are going to go outside the box a bit today and talk about some real important s**t – golf course snacks. Specifically, beef jerky. More specifically, Old Trapper Beef Jerky. This stuff is the bomb! (Am I too old to say that?) I’ve tried a lot of jerky over the years, and this is one of the best, if not the best, that I have ever had. Not only does it taste great, Old Trapper Beef Jerky is an excellent source of protein and energy, which comes in handy during the course of a round.

Here’s my review.

Old Trapper Beef Jerky is a well-known brand with a strong following due to its quality, flavor variety, and consistency.

Pros:

  • High-Quality Meat: Old Trapper uses lean cuts of beef, and many users report that the jerky tastes fresh and meaty, with minimal gristle or fat.
  • Flavor Variety: The brand offers a wide range of flavors, including original, peppered, teriyaki, and hot & spicy. Most flavors are well-balanced and not overly salty, with a natural beef taste shining through. I’ve tried them all and they are all great.
  • Texture: The jerky strikes a good balance between chewy and tender. It’s not too tough like some brands, making it easier to eat without feeling overly dry or hard on the teeth.
  • Portion Size: Old Trapper offers larger-than-average bags (like their 10-ounce bags), which provides better value compared to many other brands that come in smaller portions.
  • Packaging: Their resealable bags are convenient for maintaining freshness, especially when you don’t finish the bag in one sitting.
  • Less Preservative Taste: Compared to some lower-end brands, Old Trapper Jerky doesn’t have a strong chemical or overly-processed taste, which adds to its appeal.

Cons:

  • Price: While not the most expensive, Old Trapper is on the higher end of the price scale for beef jerky. However, many customers, and I tend to agree, feel the quality justifies the cost.
  • Sugar Content: Some flavors, like the teriyaki, are higher in sugar than health-conscious consumers might prefer. It’s worth checking the nutritional info if you’re concerned about added sugars. But seriously though, who doesn’t like a little bit of sugar from time to time. Especially on the golf course.
  • Availability: Depending on your location, it might not always be easy to find Old Trapper Jerky in all stores, although it’s widely available online. Check it out here.

Overall:

Old Trapper Beef Jerky is a high-quality, flavorful product that offers good value for the price. Whether you’re looking for a high-protein snack or something to take on the course, it provides a satisfying and consistent experience with its tender texture and well-seasoned flavors. I highly recommend this product.
